Winter Weddings - Getting those portraits when there is no light!

Winter weddings are special.......cosy fires, brisk air, maybe even festive decorations but they have a little bit of a downside compared to a Summer wedding - little or no late afternoon/evening light for outside photos.

I have shot quite a few Winter weddings, and a few that have started at 3pm or 4pm (so no daylight what-so-ever!)

This shouldn't be seen as a negative though, you can still get great shots!

One way of doing this is by looking around your venue beforehand with your photographer to scope out areas that would be suitable for any group/couple shots your may want (alot of the time inside maybe best for group shots as I am not overlooking the fact of weather/temperature - especially for Nan and Grandad)

For couples shots inside the venue maybe great but don't let that stop you from exploring outside in the dark! I love being creative with light! Available light (building or sunset), flash or a light stick (like a light sabre!)

I thought I would put together a little collection of shots I have taken during wedding evenings. Now some of these are taken during other seasons but this post is about portraits in the dark so they are still valid for this discussion :)
