After had initially planned to propose during a planned trip of a lifetime to South Africa. This was going to be in a vineyard in the Stellenbosch region. However, as a result of Covid, the 2021 trip was unfortunately cancelled. Despite this, Ali knew he was going to propose so he set about getting a ring ready for when the right moment came up. Wanting to personalise the experience and ring, Ali found a jewellery designer and worked with her to design the ring. The ring design and making process took about 5 months to complete, and Ali received the ring in late October 2022, in perfect time for our trip to to Scotland. For the next 6 weeks, the ring sat in the DeWalt storage box of Ali's drill in the garage, a place he knew Beth would never look! We travelled up to Scotland for a week long trip, staying in a cottage on the edge of Loch Lomond, before meeting Beth's parents in Gleneagles and then finishing we a couple of nights in Edinburgh. Three weeks earlier, Ali had asked Beth's parents for her hand in marriage. Despite the expectation having been there for a few years, Beth's parents would appreciate the traditional approach. Unfortunately, rather than Ask - Ali sort of told them over lunch in London. After convincing Beth to wake up for sunrise over the Loch, we left the cottage, which was so secluded, we had to travel through three separate farmer's fields to access. We went down to the water's edge and sat, wrapped up in December, talking and laughing together. At this point, Ali discretely set up his phone on record and lent it against the bench leg. After 5 or so minutes of recording, the perfect moment was captured; Ali on one knee, Beth's face overwhelmed with excitement and shock and the scenic backdrop of Loch Lomond behind us.
